Farley

November 19, 2016 by

Farley, my Jack Russell Terrier, passed away.  I had every intention to write a little story in his honor.  My heart HURT so bad it would take a few days;

He was 2 weeks old I took a quick trip up to Carter Lake with ironically Santa to pick out the perfect JRT.  This litter would ready on Christmas… Eve.  I expected lifeless creatures in this box but was shocked to see little white puppies with their infamous masks. Immediately one stood out.  His markings were incredible and his eyes never left my face; I realize now we were doing the same thing.

Christmas morning a baby JRT with a big red bow under the holiday tree the entire extended family came early.  He was a present for my daughter Denae who decided to get out of bed around 10:30 am.  Despite bows from all other presents was now confetti. Pee spots and a tired little puppy it still went good. I had him my entire adult life he was neurotic, loud, obsessed with water and decided early on if it sprayed it should be dead.  He loved walks, as I got his leash he retrieved my shoes.  He knew the colors of each toy and could verbialy retrive the exact toy to bring to me so we could play.  I said many times over he was the best money Santa ever spent. 14 years passed and almost 4 Sundays ago it was just he and I home.  He came to me and told me in a way that only if you experienced it would you understand; he said it was time. His cancer ate away his entire body! We had taken his favorite walks the week’s priors, bought his favorite toys (however he could not walk as far and he couldn’t kill the toys anymore.)  His cancer left nothing.  I made a call to home to heaven to do just that and they arrived in 30 minutes followed by Farley’s family.  I didn’t even have to ask anyone do you want to come they all ran..  His mommy Denae came in and boney body blind deaf and loss of smell jumped to great her.  He gave his hug where he puts his little head on your shoulder and just laid it there; finishing with a kiss.  He had always done this.  Farley had almost lived half his life and he found his true soul mate, his humane if you will.  Ben  his daddy his true love his human his everything. Ben belonged to no one else and Farley made sure everyone knew that at the doggie Olympics where he marked his human for about 5 minutes.  Drenched, Ben was not approached by another dog or anyone for that matter.  Wherever Ben was there was Farley. Denae held him as he was passing and then Ben held him with every ounce of love one could give.  I looked at Farley’s face nestled on Ben’s shoulder and he never looked happier.  He had his human and his suffering has seized!  The vet went to check his heart and I said he is still alive because his eyes moved and locked straight into mine, 20 seconds later his heart stopped, his eyes stayed the same.  We ended just as we started
